Teesta Barrage is situated on the Teesta river at Doani in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district, 1 kilometer away from the border of Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district.The construction of barrages in the Teesta river, in the area of ​​Gravity system, necessitates the need for a irrigation project from the British .the government took the planning of the Teesta Barrage project. The original plan was adopted in 1953. After the independence of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Water Development Board and the engineers of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology created new surveys and detailed plans and designs by using the local expertise and manpower, according to the model study of Teesta Barrage .The construction work of the Teesta Barrage Project was undertaken in 1979 and the construction work of the Kanan system was taken in 1984-85. Barrage length is 615 meters, gate 44. The Canal Head Regulator is 110 meters long, gate 8. Total gate 52 June 1, 1998 finished the first phase of the project. Total construction cost is 969.53 crore taka
